Tayside Stroke Managed Clinical Network was established in 2004. Stroke is the third commonest cause of death in Scotland and the most common cause of severe physical disability amongst adults. It is estimated that about 15,000 people in Scotland have a stroke each year. Hospital care for these patients accounts for 7% of all NHS beds and 5% of the entire NHS budget. Stroke continues to be a priority long-term condition both locally and nationally.

The Stroke MCN aims to provide improved quality of care by ensuring that patients and carers have equity of access to a holistic model of stroke services across Tayside.
Quality of life for people affected by stroke is a fundamental principle of the Stroke Services MCN. The MCN listens to the views of patients and carers, endeavours to understand their needs and expectations of Stroke services and works in collaboration with patients, carers and professionals to respond. By maximising services in the community the MCN aims to deliver care that is as local and specialised as possible.
