Scottish Paediatric Renal Urology Managed Clinical Network

Geographical
Area Covered:

Scotland

Background
Information:

The Scottish Paediatric Renal Urology Network is a national managed clinical network, funded by NHS Scotland National Services Division and hosted by NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (Women and Children’s Directorate) set up and accredited by NSD in 2005.  The Network is intended to encompass renal and urological disease in children and young people (up to 18) which may require the input of a specialist centre but which can also be managed locally.
The Network will facilitate the care of children and young people with renal disease via local teams delivering care close to home with information and intervention being provided, as necessary, by specialist centres.
The vision of the Scottish Paediatric Renal Network is that by collaboration and multi-disciplinary working there will be a significant improvement in the outcomes of children and young people with renal and urological disease.
The Network office is run from the Managed Clinical Networks Department within RHSC Yorkhill.  The Lead Clinician for the Network, is Dr David Hughes.  Derrick Pearce, Network Manager has been in post since May 2006.
The Network is guided by a multi-disciplinary Steering Group of almost 40 members representing all of the 14 Health Boards; there is also service user and support group representation.  The Network are building a Service Users Network made up of interested children, young people, parents and carers from all over Scotland.  This group will act as an advisory body to the Steering Group to ensure that the Network is truly led by our users and supporters.
