Welcome to the website for NHS Tayside Centre for MCNs

The NHS Tayside Centre for MCN's provides a support and guidance infrastructure for any Managed Clinical or Care Network linked to NHS Tayside.

There are twenty eight managed clinical / care networks affiliated to NHS Tayside, each of them unique in the clinical area or disease specialty they cover.

What are Managed Clinical/Care Networks?

Managed Clinical / care Networks (MCNs) are groups of professionals from health, local authority and voluntary groups and patient representatives who work together to agree the best ways to care for patients across several health care services. They aim to make sure that patients receive the same high standard of care wherever they may live.

People involved with MCNs come from a range of services and organisations. They include GPs, consultants, nurses, allied health professionals ( e.g. physiotherapists and dieticians) and managers. Often local authority groups such as the Community Care Departments will be involved. When integration of services across health and local authorities occur, the concept of a Managed Care Network is created.

As MCNs are set up to share information and ideas to improve services for patients, it is essential that patients, carers and members of the public are central to the collaboration of MCNs. By bringing together the views of service users and providers, services can be developed based on the needs of the patient.
